The sandy granite gives it that particular lift and keeps the finish clean. A wine that is enjoyable from now, but which would not object to another four or five years in the cellar before giving itself up fully. These vines are more than eighty years of age and the wine offers up a deep and nicely transparent bouquet of red and black cherries, whole clusters, gamebird, a fine base of dark soil tones, vinesmoke and a lovely floral topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and tangy, with a good core of fruit, excellent soil transparency, moderate tannins and a long, well balanced and youthful finish. This is tightly-knit and will need some time to blossom properly. It is not as deep and sappy as so many recent vintage have been, but more a throwback style of wine, with lots of soil signature and adequate, but not overly generous ripeness of fruit. These vines are now ninety-four years of age and have delivered a superb example of the vintage in 2024. The bouquet is deep, black fruity and sappy, offering up scents of sweet dark berries, black cherries, pigeon, whole clusters, bonfire and a beautiful base of dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is pure, focused and full-bodied, with a lovely touch of old vine sappiness at the core, fine soil inflection and grip, ripe, buried tannins and excellent balance on the long and complex finish.
