"A finer nose, more perfumed and floral – lots of depth – yes! In the mouth there’s finer texture too, and such a lovely shape – this is more direct than fat. The 2019 production was so low that "only magnums" will be offered in 2019 – and what super magnums they will be!" Bill Nanson's Burgundy Report
This wine, a village appellation from the domaine, is a monopole of the place named "La Fontaine". It is an excellent example of Vosne-Romanee, in one word, elegant. Cherry color, fragrant nose and a richness balanced by a judicious amount of tannins and acidity. Perfect to consume young with red meats.
Domaine A-F. Gros is a 10-hectare estate comprised of vineyards situated in both the Côte-de-Beaune and the Côte-de-Nuits. The talented young winemaker, Mathias Parent, possesses one of the most distinguished pedigrees in Burgundy. Through his father’s line, he is descended from 13 generations of Burgundians, including Étienne Parent, who supplied wine to Thomas Jefferson. Through his mother, Anne-Françoise Gros (daughter of Jean Gros), Mathias traces his roots to the storied Louis Gros in the early 19th century. Mathias shares management of the domaine with his sister, the charming and capable Caroline Parent. The Domaine today includes vineyards, mostly Pinot Noir, inherited through both lines of the family.
This is also aromatically timid yet quite pretty with a slightly spicier nose of plum, violet and exotic tea. There is fine volume to the caressing, delicious and vibrant flavors that deliver fine persistence and very good depth. This is a quality Vosne villages.
