Chateau Godard - Francs Cotes de Bordeaux 2019

Chateau Godard Description

Four generations of Carine Godard's family have tended to Château Godard & Cru Godard since 1895. Carine inherited the 23-hectare property from her father in 1998. She and her husband, Franck, decided in 2002 to begin bottling under the Estate name instead of selling to the local cooperative. With a vision of producing high-quality wines in the Francs- Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, they converted their vineyards to organics in 2007 (certified in 2010), and since 2016, they have adopted biodynamic principles. Biodiversity is important to the family and their wines are an authentic expression of the land. The Côtes de Bordeaux is a newer appellation, created in 2009 to merge four existing appellations used in the Bordeaux region. They are Côtes de Blaye, Côtes de Castillon, Côtes de Francs, and the red wines of Cadillac, which was previously designated, Premiers Côtes de Bordeaux. Les Francs is located on the eastern end of Bordeaux, close to Bergerac, and the clay-limestone soil differentiates from the other appellations. The cooler terroir allows for beautiful ripening and healthy vines, which requires less intervention during winemaking. Biodiversity is vital to the family, and their wines are a fresh and authentic expression of the land.   wainscottmain.com

Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points

Lightly toasty, this wine is structured with ripe black fruits. A smoky character adds to the deliciousness. The structure will allow the wine to age. Drink from 2023. - Roger Voss
