Since 1616, Château Marquis d'Alesme has overseen an exceptional terroir in Margaux, right in the heart of the Bordeaux region. Combining exoticism and classicism, Château Marquis d'Alesme is an estate of culture and passion.
Château Marquis d'Alesme 2022 is a Margaux wine produced from a 15-hectare vineyard. The vineyard, with on average 35-year-old vines, is like a garden, tended with the greatest care thanks to the craftsmanship of the château's team. The vines are planted on clay-limestone, siliceous gravel and clay soils.
Harvested by hand. Vinification in temperature-controlled 80 hl truncated wooden, stainless steel and concrete vats. Aged in barrels (60% new and 40% one-wine barrels).
Château Marquis d'Alesme 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
Wow. This is really fantastic. It’s full-bodied with blackberry and blackcurrant aromas and flavors. Such intensity with superfocus and balance. Great center palate. The real deal. Best ever. Try after 2030.
Expressive nose full of chocolate, cherries, roses and liquorice. Quite compact and restrained on the palate, the dark blue and black bramble fruit has a nice fleshy, almost plush texture - with stoney elements that come across as a bit drying which overtakes the juicy, lively acidity and makes it a touch sombre right now - especially compared to Labegorce which has more vibrancy at this point. However, I like the structure and frame. It's well built with plenty of power and will be excellent for ageing. Touches of powdery chocolate, espresso and dried herbs on the finish. - Georgina Hindle
Glass-staining purple gives vibrancy and sets the tone for the stunning depths and character of the wine. This has so much texture, with rippling powerful cassis and blueberry fruit, slate and pummice stone, grips on through the palate, and like the best 2022s manages to be extremely ripe without being overly sweet, with a build up of tannins that gives structure without being drying. As it opens you get pulses of pummice stone minerality, and floral aromatics. Harvest September 15 to October 4. 60% new oak. Marjolaine de Coninck CEO and technical director. The blend given is planted, not as per final wine, allowing slight evolution over ageing, so these are ones to check back in on when in bottle.
Beautiful Cabernet notes of currants, leafy tobacco, menthol, and lovely floral notes all define the 2022 Château Marquis D'Alesme, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, seamless, elegant Margaux. It has a rich, upfront style, yet it nevertheless brings solid tannic grip. I love it today, yet it's going to take a decade to hit prime time. The blend is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, hitting 14.5% alcohol. It will see its 30th birthday in fine form.
Broad and velvety in feel, this delivers a steady wave of blackberry and black cherry reduction supported by a light graphite spine. Infused through the finish with warm earth, violet and dark tobacco notes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2038 - James Molesworth
