Chateau d'Issan is a wine born of subtlety and elegance. With the exquisite bouquet unique to Margaux, Issan has become synonymous with the charm, suppleness and finesse that are the hallmarks of its great terroir.
This is great, easily one of the best of the Margaux lineup. It has concentration and that sense of 2011 savoury, almost dry fruit but it is balanced by juice and a sense of energy. Great feeling of Margaux character with touches of florality. 57% of production in the first wine. (Drink between 2021-2040)
Only 57% of the production made it into the 2011 d’Issan, which tips the scales at a lofty 13.2% natural alcohol. A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot, it possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as a classic Margaux perfume of sweet blueberries, black currants, spring flowers and licorice. Ripe and deep with impressive intensity, it is one of the stars of the 2011 vintage. The wine’s silky tannins, fresh acids and stunning length suggest it will drink well for 15-20 years.
Good focus, with a dusty frame but a good sappy core of blackberry and black cherry. Nice perfumy edge on the finish.
The 2011 d'Issan has a perfumed and floral bouquet with violet petals infusing the black cherry and boysenberry fruit. It is undeniably attractive, if not at the same level as the previous three vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with pleasant succulence on the entry; well judged acidity with a little chewiness. That said the finish demonstrates impressive delineation and freshness. This will be one of the more earlier-drinking d'Issan releases, but one not to be over-looked. Tasted at the d’Issan vertical held at the property.
A dense wine that’s full of black plums and firm tannins. It has weight at the front and juicy freshness on the finish.
