It offers a very impressive nose made of grapefruit, pear, vineyard peach, ginger, bergamot, and spices. The wine is beautifully balanced and focused on the palate and leaves a gorgeous feel of freshness and yet balanced smoothness in the long finish. The aftertaste is all about spices and herbs. The 2022 Pündericher Marienburg Grosses Gewächs Rothenpfad is the area above the viaduct with red-colored slate; these were parcels that had fallen fallow, but the Busch family was able to unite several parcels, re-cultivate and build a monorail track. The GG is made from vines between 70 and 100 years old, not the newer plantings. The nose is of red apple, with a smattering of pepper and subtle yarrow. The very fine palate tingles with spice, hints of saltiness and notions of tangerine peel with a pithy, textural streak, adding an extra dimension and beautiful depth. Long and elegant.
