Genagricola’s latest acquisition in the winemaking sector is Costa Arènte, an 86-acre estate (35 ha) with 42 acres (17 ha) of vineyard in the Valpantena valley near Verona.
Aquired in 2015, the estate is located in the municipality of Grezzana at an altitude of between 820 and 1150 ft asl, on loamy calcareous soils. Located at the top of a hill (‘costa’ means ‘hill’ or ‘crest’ in Veronese dialect) and surrounded by vineyards on three sides, the exposure of Costa Arènte is particularly favorable for the production of healthy grapes, able to withstand the drying process necessary to create Amarone, the region’s symbol.
Costa Arente Amarone has an intense ruby red color with a garnet rim. On the nose, it shows a complex bouquet with a combination of red and black fruit such as sour cherries and blackcurrant along with spicy notes of licorice, tobacco and black pepper. On the palate, it shows great elegance with intense notes of plums and vanilla. The bright acidity is well balanced with the firm tannic structure and warm alcohol. Long lingering finish and great concentration and complexity. Hearty Amarone is definitely a wine for the wintertime: accompany it with full-flavored roasts, games or mature cheeses. Decant.
