Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace its roots back over 550 years, to 1450, and the Chambolle vines of Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation - Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Winemaker François Millet thins his crop to optimize flavors through reasonable yields. He ages 30-40% of the Grands Crus in new oak barrels, a move that emphasizes earth and fruit flavors instead of spicy wood aromas.
The Bonnes-Mares 2014 at Domaine de Comte de Vogüé comes in at a very svelte 12.4 percent alcohol, but delivers just lovely fruit sappiness to go along with stellar transparency. The nose delivers a lovely range of scents, with notes of damson plums, black cherries, raw cocoa, smoke, mustard seed, peonies, gentle notes of new wood and a beautifully refined range of soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very soil-driven, with plenty of sappiness in reserve at the core, ripe, beautifully-integrated tannins and a long, vibrant and very, very promising finish. A beautiful example of Bonnes-Mares in the making. (Drink between 2025-2075)
