Domaine Faiveley - Corton Clos des Cortons 2012 (1.5L)

Domaine Faiveley Description

The Domaine of Faiveley is situated in the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France. Wine runs deep in the Faiveley family’s blood. Seven generations and one of the largest owners in Burgundy, with holdings spreading from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte Chalonnaise, featuring polished, collectible reds and whites with exceptionally high ratings. Today it is managed by Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve Faiveley.

"Faiveley’s wines are... supremely clean and elegant: definitive examples of Pinot Noir... above all they have richness and breed, the thumbprint of a master winemaker." -Clive Coates M.W. Côte d’Or, A Celebration of the Great Wines of Burgundy.

Burghound: 93-95 Points

Vinous: 93 Points

"Musky, expressive, very ripe perfume of redcurrant and dried flowers; a real essence of Burgundy, if more floral than stony on the nose in the early going. Classically dry and unforthcoming but quite suave, with technically low yet somehow penetrating acidity and salty crushed-rock minerality framing the flavors of cherry, raspberry and rose petal. Showing limited flesh today but this very dense wine is still an infant. This very firmly built, imploded wine finishes with strong, slightly dusty tannins and terrific subtle length. The Clos des Cortons produced 37 hectoliters per hectare in 2012, which Jérôme Flous described as "a nice crop for the vintage."

Wine Advocate: 92 Points

Tasted blind at the annual ""Burgfest"" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Clos des Cortons from Faiveley has a very elegant and pure bouquet that expresses more essence of pinoté than others. There is a candied quality to the aromatics, perhaps even a playfulness. The palate is well balanced and supple in the mouth, perhaps the oak a little too strong towards the finish. This is a Corton that seemingly wants to exude finesse, but in order for that to happen, the imprint of the winemaking needs to ebb away. My score is based on the opinion that it will.
