The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is 50% whole cluster fruit. It has a denser and more opaque bouquet compared to the 2015 Clos Saint Denis -- blueberry and cassis fruit, all with a tight leash on. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin on the entry; there is blackberry and boysenberry, and plenty of salinity here with a mineral-driven finish that leaves the tongue a tingling long after it has departed. This is very serious and deserves a few years in the cellar.
There is just enough reduction present to render the nose hard to read though I doubt that it will persist. The medium weight plus flavors are bigger, richer and more powerful while possessing a velvety, even lush mouth feel, all wrapped in a highly seductive, balanced and very firmly structured finale. Thanks to the fine-grained tannins this too should age well but be approachable after only 7 to 8 years of age. (Drink starting 2029)
