The most subtle tone of crushed yarrow blends with a hint of lemon on a very shy, almost closed nose. The palate comes in with insistent, concentrated freshness that draws you into a deeper, fresher, cooler core of citrus, crushed herb and fine yeastiness. There is something mouthwatering, zesty and fresh that lifts this up way beyond the ripe, warm vintage. Lovely now, certain to evolve. Drink 2025–2045.
Schütt is a relatively low alluvial fan, but it’s south-facing and has excellent drainage; Knoll never fails to make world-class wines here. This has a ripe apricot nose, but is spicy, poised and lively. The attack is fresh and intense, with a dry mid-palate despite the evident ripeness. Invigorating acidity gives structure and balance to the exquisite fruit. Mineral, textured and very long. – Stephen Brook
