Tasting, tasting, tasting…. That’s how I find the discoveries. You, on the other hand just have to visit GTWC, on your phone or in person, to get phenomenal wines. Tasted 90 wines the other day and the wine of the day for me was the 2021 Liaison Pinot Noir from a winery in Baden, Germany, Enderle & Moll. Everything I want in a wine and more. Notes of juicy red cherries, ripe raspberries, and tart orange dominate. Insanely delicious.
A little chit-chat with the sales folks and the details are that Enderle & Moll farms all of their vineyards organically and biodynamically. Absolutely everything is done by hand in the vineyards and in the cellar. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. You can taste it in these beautiful Pinots. The focus here is not on ripeness, but on the age and quality of the vineyard. They work with very old vines. Among the oldest Pinot Noir vines in Baden.
The “Liaison” is so-named because it comes from old vines (50+ years old) planted in both sandstone and limestone. From the sandstone, the wine gains a heady floral exuberance, an exotic and extroverted perfume. From the limestone, the wine takes its rigor and form. It is a magical combination.
Jancis Robinson has called them “cult.”
They are using an old basket press and aging the wines in used older Dujac barrels.
That makes a wine that stands out after 90 others in a fun day covering 4 different trade tastings in 5 hours. There were other standouts too… keep looking for my emails.
Cruising the inventory, I see that we have 4 consecutive vintages of “Liaison”… VERTICAL!
You guessed it. Let’s make a 4 pack of Liaison from 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Definitely jump on the 21 but it’s nice to have a vertical tasting too.
