Louis Jadot - Chambertin Clos de Beze 2014 (1.5L)

The Chambertin vineyard is situated on a chalky soil in the depth and clayey at the surface, which makes the wine both powerful and round. Destemmed grapes ferment in vats during 3 to 4 weeks. Aging takes place in oak barrels produced by our cooperage Cadus during 18 months. AGING POTENTIAL 20 years and more.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

Wine Enthusiast: 96 Points

Next door to the top grand cru of Chambertin, this vineyard, with its east-facing exposure, is one of the stars of Gevrey-Chambertin. This vintage is hugely rich—ripe with voluminous fruit and smoky hints from the wood aging. It has density and the potential for long aging. Drink from 2025. *Cellar Selection* (RV)

Wine Spectator: 95 Points

High-toned red berry fruit sets the pace for this tensile red, as sweet spice and a chalky undertone add depth. Turns firm and taut on the finish, merely hinting at the potential. Best from 2022 through 2040. (BS)

Decanter: 95 Points

Lovely spicy raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, a tense, silky texture and mineral finish. Incredible finesse.

Vinous: 95+ Points

Bright medium red. Reticent on the nose but already conveying exhilarating high tones to its aromas of raspberry liqueur, pomegranate, wild herbs, spices and game. Dense and seamless but also salty and penetrating, communicating a distinctly wild aspect to its flavors of cranberry, dark cherry, minerals and game. Aeration brought a compelling creaminess to the middle palate, but the wine's unflagging finish suggests that this powerful expression of soil will repay extended cellaring. Even today, the noble tannins are in perfect harmony with the wine's fruit. (ST) 95+

Wine Advocate

The 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a sweeter and riper, if less nuanced and aristocratic bouquet than the 2014 Chambertin. This is all sweetness and light (unusually for Clos de Bèze). The palate is very refined with rounded tannin, well judged acidity and good density. This is backward, almost surly towards the finish, but there is also an attractive spicy edge that comes through on the aftertaste. It may actually need more bottle age than the Chambertin.
