Louis Jadot - Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 2017

The Chambolle-Musigny vineyards is unique in the Côte de Nuits for the chalky composition of its soils just over a hard rocky bedrock which stresses the vines. Les Fuées is situated just near the Bonnes Mares Grand Cru vineyard. There are a lot of hard stones. It has an East exposure. Destemmed grapes ferment in vats during 3 to 4 weeks. Aging takes place in oak barrels produced by our cooperage Cadus during 18 months. AGING POTENTIAL 20 years and more.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

Wine Advocate: 91-93 Points

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées (Domaine Louis Jadot) unfurls in the glass with a pretty bouquet of spiced plums raspberries candied peel and dark chocolate. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied ample and expansive with a deep and layered core fine structuring tannins and a long finish. This is one of the high points of the portfolio and well worth seeking out.

Vinous: 90-92 Points

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has similar fruit intensity to the Les Baudes, although the oak is a little more vocal and therefore it does not quite have the same transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. This is quite strict and linear at the moment, showing good grip, although I discern more complexity and nuance on the Les Baudes. (Drink between 2022-2036)
