Louis Jadot - Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles 2019

Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles is located to the south of the Côte de Beaune, at the summit of the slope where the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet converge, but on the Puligny commune, just above Le Montrachet. It is very small : 1.28 acre. Louis Jean Baptiste Jadot bought back the vineyard in 1913 from two sisters and decided to name it « Les demoiselles ». This vineyard had already belonged to his grand-father who had bought it in 1845. The subsoil is extremely chalky with a lot of stones, perfectly drained and easy to overheat with south-south-eastern exposition. Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by our cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling. AGING POTENTIAL 20 years and more.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

James Suckling: 97 Points

Although the bouquet is already very enticing, with delicate apricot, bergamot and blossom notes, this is a reserved wine wine that creeps up on you, before unleashing a tidal wave of minerality at the explosive finish, which hangs very long on your palate. Drink or hold.

Inside Burgundy: 97 Points

Pale lemon colour. The bouquet is ripe with the lightest of banana inflections, and overall a sense of very promising intensity. Complete in the mouth, exceptionally persistent, with a crystalline limestone freshness throughout to support the weight of fruit. Showing beautifully! I am pleased to meet this wine again because it was in an awkward stage when tasted from barrel. - Jasper Morris

Vinous: 96-98 Points

The 2019 Chevalier-Montrachet Demoiselles Grand Cru is beautifully defined on the nose, featuring wonderful crushed limestone and gunflint scents that permeate the green apple aromas. Very focused and intense. The palate is extremely well balanced with a powerful opening, very saline and so full of energy. Enormous weight and presence toward the finish. This is an outstanding Chevalier-Montrachet from Jadot. - Neal Martin,

Wine Spectator

A creamy, harmonious white, revealing lemon cream, honeydew melon, hazelnut and pastry aromas and flavors that all come together. This is still very youthful and all the components are in the right place, they just need time to integrate. Fine length. Best from 2024 through 2029. 20 cases imported.

Wine Advocate

The king of the cellar this year is the 2019 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Les Demoiselles (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), a superb effort that unwinds in the glass with inviting aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, fresh bread, crisp orchard fruit, toasted almonds and honeycomb. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it’s satiny and structured, with a ripe but chiseled profile that exemplifies the vintage at its best.
