Louis Jadot - Clos de la Roche 2009 (3L)

Morey Saint Denis is one of the smallest commune in the Côte de Nuits, including 4 Grands Crus: Clos Saint Denis, Clos de la Roche, Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart. The «Clos de la Roche» vineyard is situated on the Morey Saint Denis commune (Northern part) and very closeto the border of the Grands Crus vineyards of Gevrey Chambertin. It is the biggest of the 4 Grands Crus (17 ha) and it is facing East. The grapes bear small little dark red berries. The bunches are destemmed; they macerate in open vats during 4 weeks helping this subtle terroir to reveal itself. After devatting, the wines are aged in oak barrels during 18 months. AGING POTENTIAL 20 years and more.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

A View from the Cellar: 93 Points

The 2009 Jadot Clos de la Roche is an outstanding example of the vintage, s the wine offers up the generosity of excellent ripeness and the purity and elegance of the best 2009s. The bouquet is a classic Clos de la Roche mélange of red plums, cherries, vinesmoke, hints of the game to come, raw cocoa, complex soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, long and intensely flavored, with lovely focus, ripe tannins, a fine core of fruit and excellent length and grip on the poised finish. Lovely juice.

Vinous: 92-95 Points

Wine Advocate: 92-95 Points

The 2009 Clos de la Roche comes across as big, powerful and a touch heavy-handed. This shows tons of richness and depth but lacks the sheer excitement of the estate's finest wines. The Clos de la Roche is made from purchased wine. (AG)
