Chateau Malescot-St.-Exupery Description
In 1697, the estate was sold to Simon Malescot, adviser to King Louis XIV. In 1827 the Count of Saint-Exup?ry, great-grandfather of the famous aviator, bought the property. Ch?teau Malescot St Exup?ry, three hundred years old and the third Grand Cru Class?, has one of the most beautiful terroirs of Margaux, the emblematic appellation of the Left Bank of Bordeaux.
Ch?teau Malescot St Exup?ry is a Margaux wine from a 23-hectare vineyard located in the heart of the appellation.
The grapes are harvested by hand in crates and sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel and cement vats and lasts 8 to 12 days without yeast. The wine is then matured on its fine lees for 12 to 14 months in barrels (70% of which are new), with stirring.
Cabernet Sauvignon (55%)
Merlot (40%)
Petit Verdot (5%).
James Suckling: 96-97 Points
Attractive dark-berry character with blackberries, blackcurrants, walnuts and dark spices. It?s full-bodied, concentrated and dense with a compact and very fine tannin structure that builds up. It?s deep and balanced with violets and pure blue-fruit undertones. Lingering and very polished finish. Structured and firm.
Jeb Dunnuck: 94-96 Points
94-96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com: "The 2022 Ch?teau Malescot Saint Exup?ry is gorgeous and certainly a Margaux worth seeking out. Dense purple-hued, with a rich, powerful bouquet of ripe black fruits, melted chocolate, smoked tobacco, and spice, it picks up a beautiful floral character with air, is full-bodied, and has a layered, opulent mouthfeel as well as a great finish. It shows the vintage's building yet velvety tannins and is going to warrant just 4-5 years or more of bottle age, but it's a brilliant wine in the making." 5/23
The Wine Independent: 93-95+ Points
93-95+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent: ?Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Malescot St. Exupery comes barreling out of the glass with bold notions of black raspberries, blackcurrant jelly, and fresh, juicy plums, followed by wafts of violets, cinnamon stick, and forest floor. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely laden with black and red berry layers, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This is very pretty!? 5/23
Vinous: 93-95 Points
93-95 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2022 Malescot Saint Exup?ry was picked from 19 September until 5 October, stopping over two weekends as it rained. Every parcel contributed fruit to the Grand Vin and there is 14.5% alcohol. Raised in 70% new oak with most of the malo done in barrel, it has a fragrant bouquet with red cherries, raspberry coulis, blueberry and violet scents. The palate has a well-defined entry with sour cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and touches of marmalade. Not powerful, but harmonious with a silky texture, this is a precision-tooled Margaux that will give 20 to 30 years of drinking pleasure." 4/23
