Chateau Clos Junet - Saint Emilion 2018

"Notes of red and blue fruits, flowers, forest floor, and spice give way to a medium-bodied, elegant Saint-Emilion with terrific purity, a balanced, elegant texture, and enough structure to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for a solid decade." Jeb Dunnuck

Chateau Clos Junet Description

CLOS JUNET is a tiny property (3.5 hectares) owned and managed by a young and talented winemaker (Paul Junet is in his early 30’s). Paul took it over from his father, Patrick Junet. The property has been in the same family for 4 generations. This family property was acquired in the 19th century by Patrick Junet’s great grandfather!

This small vineyard is located on the gentle slopes of a sandy incline, which lies to the west of the Saint-Emilion limestone plateau. The Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec grape varieties grow here in ancient beds of sand with veins of red clay running through the sub-soil.

There is a high proportion of Cabernet Franc (30%) and 10% Malbec that are giving this little “extra” for a wine of that caliber/price point.

The ratings are unanimously excellent for such a value. This is a beautiful wine and there is definitively something special here. We highly recommend this wine!

Blend: 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec

James Suckling: 92 Points

The 2018 Clos Junet turned out beautifully. Rich, ample and textured in the glass, Clos Junet has a ton to offer. Blackberry jam, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and dried herbs all blossom in the glass. Bright floral and blood orange notes perk up the finish.

Jeb Dunnuck: 91 Points

Coming from a tiny 3-hectare vineyard and sandy, clay soils, the 2018 Château Clos Junet is an interesting blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec. Lots of Cabernet Franc notes of red and blue fruits, flowers, forest floor, and spice give way to a medium-bodied, elegant Saint-Emilion with terrific purity, a balanced, elegant texture, and enough structure to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for a solid decade or more.
