Our family is keeping alive a tradition that has lasted for six generations.

We own 12 hectares of Chablis Grand Cru (Les Clos, Clos des Hospices which is a Moreau family exclusivity, Valmur, Vaudésir, Blanchot), Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon, Chablis and Petit Chablis. The Domaine’s modern and functional building is set up in the very heart of the Chablis country, at the foot of its famous Grands Crus vineyards.

We respect Chablis’ vineyard terroir, the only one of its kind in the world and work in a rational way to maintain our grapevines and soil, applying a comprehensive strategy for effective yield management.

Our winemaking techniques should strive to honor the high quality of our terroir, vines and grapes, bringing out the very best in every harvest. All our grapes are hand-picked, from our Petit Chablis up to our Grands Crus.

Christian Moreau Père & Fils Description

Christian Moreau, one of the leading figures in Chablis, is producing the wines he loves under his own name. Free of any personal involvement with the negociant company that his family founded and sold, with his son Fabien they founded Domaine Christian Moreau Pére et Fils in 2001 and set up their winemaking operation in the very heart of the Chablis country, at the foot of its famous Grands Cru vineyards.

The Domaine holdings are located in the best oriented parcels, and bottlings include Grand Crus Les Clos, Valmur, Vaudésir, Blanchot, and Les Clos des Hospices (a Monopole from the Moreau family), Premier Cru Vaillon, as well as Chablis AC, and some Petit Chablis. Every parcel is harvested by hand to bring out the very best from each vineyard. The Moreau's winemaking philosophy is non-interventionist at its core, entailing biodynamic practices aimed toward creating low-yield, high-quality harvests. Additionally, grapes for every wine from the Chablis AC to the Les Clos Grand Cru are hand-picked.

Fabien Moreau became the winemaker with the 2002 vintage, and is already producing remarkable results. With previous experience in New Zealand, Fabien is a visionary young winemaker who is a sincere adherent to the tenants of terroir. As such, the wines of Christian Moreau Pere et Fils are remarkable for their authenticity, distinctiveness, and exquisite quality.

Vinous: 90 Points

Racked three weeks before my visit, the 2021 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru is 40% fermented in barrel due to the lower volume, with everything now transferred into tank. It has a slightly leesy bouquet with subtle pressed flower scents. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, lovely white peach and blood orange notes and a lilting, harmonious finish. Give it a year in bottle. - Neal Martin

Burghound: 90-92 Points

This too displays a moderate level of reduction as well as a touch of wood toast. The succulent, round and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors possess a subtle minerality on the markedly dry but not really austere finale. This is still quite primary, and a few years of aging should help to develop better depth. - Allen Meadows

Inside Burgundy: 90-93 Points

A blend of six plots, mostly made in wood with very little new, now assembled. Fresh and lively, a little stoniness, but also in the softer style of the vintage. Lemon scented finish, with good persistence. - Jasper Morris
