"Brianne Day’s 2021 Johan Vineyard bottling of pinot noir is absolutely beautiful, which seems to be the case in every vintage. The wine comes in at 13.3 percent octane in this vintage and was fermented with thirty percent whole clusters and raised in twenty percent new oak. The bouquet is beautifully perfumed (which always seems to be a signature of wines made from fruit from Johan Vineyard), offering up scents of red plums, cherries, woodsmoke, gamebird, sweet brown spices, a touch of raw cocoa, lovely savory tones from the whole clusters, peonies and a deft framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, focused and full-bodied, with a sappy core of fruit, fine soil inflection, ripe, well-integrated tannins, tangy acids and impeccable balance 94 on the long, focused and complex finish. Like so many 2021 Oregon pinot noirs, this will demand some extended cellaring time to soften up its structural chassis, but once it is ready to drink, it is going to be outstanding."-John Gilman
