Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace its roots back over 550 years, to 1450, and the Chambolle vines of Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation - Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Winemaker François Millet thins his crop to optimize flavors through reasonable yields. He ages 30-40% of the Grands Crus in new oak barrels, a move that emphasizes earth and fruit flavors instead of spicy wood aromas.

The 2014 Chambolle AC from Domaine de Comte de Vogüé is a very pretty and promising village wine, wafting from the glass in a vibrant blend of black cherries, red plums, smoke, a lovely base of soil and a gentle topnote of mustard seed. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very suave on the attack, with a lovely core, moderate tannins and a long, tangy finish. This should prove to be an excellent middleweight and quintessentially Chambolle with six to eight years of bottle age. (Drink between 2022-2050)- John Gilman

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Villages has a crisp, marine influenced bouquet all with fine delineation, a mixture of red and black fruit that unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with good salinity and grip on the entry, quite structured with good backbone, leaning almost to a Morey Saint Denis-like classicism towards the lightly spiced finish. This should drink well over the next 6-8 years. Tasted November 2016.
