Domaine Gerard Julien - Nuits-St.-Georges Les Bousselots 2019 (1.5L)

"Much deeper and more intense fruit. Heady nose, darker fruit, short of mulberry, fresher behind and with good intensity. Will emerge as a relatively classic Nuits-St-Georges I think." Jasper Morris, Insider Burgundy

Les Bousselots lies in the commune’s northern sector, in the direction of Vosne-Romanée; the resulting wine therefore hints at the aromatic delicacy typical of Vosne—almost exotic in its spiced bouquet, overlaid with opulent fruit of velvety refinement.

Domaine Gerard Julien Description

The domaine’s beginnings date back to the late 19th century when François Xavier Julien first purchased some vineyard land in Comblanchien and Nuits Saint Georges.

Today, Etienne has taken over at the domaine and in a very short time it’s clear he is a real talent who is continuing to improve. In the coming years he no doubt will be one of the fresh faces in Burgundy that everyone will be talking about.

Domaine Gerard Julien produces small quantities of Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Cote-de-Nuits Village, Aloxe-Corton “Les Valozieres”, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges “Aux Saints Julien”, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru “Les Bousselots” and Échezeaux Grand Cru.

Wine Advocate: 92 Points

The old-vine 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots is very promising, mingling aromas of cherries, cassis and sweet berry fruit with hints of cinnamon, dark chocolate and truffle. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's seamless and elegant, with succulent acids and a broad, expansive finish.

100% new wood this year (though not always). Much deeper and more intense fruit. Etienne works closely with the Cavins on the barrel front. He likes the flesh and the freshness of new wood and it slips below the surface after a couple of years in bottle. Heady nose, with currently a slight oaky oxidative feel. Darker fruit, short of mulberry, fresher behind and with good intensity. Will emerge as a relatively classic Nuits-St-Georges I think. Barrel Sample: 91-94
