"I last tasted this wine back in October, when it was first released. As readers may recall, Vincent Laval did not produce this cuvée from the base year of 2021, due to the very short crop, so there will be two tranches of this wine released here in the US, with a second release due in the coming months and which will have spent a bit less than a year of additional time aging sur lattes in Vincent’s cellars in Cumières. It will be very interesting to compare the two bottlings. In any case, the earlier-disgorged version of the 2022 Base Year Cumières, disgorged at the end of August of 2024, has blossomed beautifully since I last drank a bottle and now offers up a superb and very expressive bouquet of apple, peach, passion fruit, brioche, a lovely base of chalky soil tones, a touch of caraway seed, gentle oakiness and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crips and impeccably balanced, with a fine core, excellent soil signature, elegant mousse and lovely precision on the long, complex and vibrant finish. Fine, fine juice."-John Gilman
