Girolamo Russo Etna Rosso A'Rina represents a benchmark expression from Sicily's Mount Etna region, showcasing the elegant red fruit characteristics of the indigenous Nerello Mascalese grape balanced against a distinctive mineral-driven structure that reflects the exceptional terroir of Mount Etna's volcanic soils. The Girolamo Russo estate was established in 2005 by Giuseppe Russo as a tribute to his late father, with vineyards situated at elevations between 650-780 meters above sea level on Mount Etna's ancient lava flows. These heritage vines, ranging from 60 to 100 years in age, derive essential minerals from subterranean volcanic aquifers that provide crucial hydration during Sicily's intense summer months. The estate employs exclusively hand-harvesting methods, with Giuseppe maintaining organic vineyard practices and overseeing all winemaking operations, vinifying each vineyard parcel separately to preserve its unique character and authentically express the diverse terroir of their respective sites.

Plenty of citrus, orange peel, honey and beeswax with some pumice and volcanic soil character. Medium body, with firm and integrated tannins that are energetic and integrated. Very pretty now but even better in three or four years. Drink or hold.

Vinous: 93 Points

The 2023 Etna Rosso A Rina wafts up with a savory profile, mixing woodland berry with nuances of sage, wet concrete and a burst of tangerine. This displays a lovely sweetness with its ripe strawberry and cherry fruits as rosy inner florals cascade throughout. It leaves a saturation of primary concentration as depths of tart raspberry mingle with autumnal spices through the long, refreshing finish. The product of severe selection, this is the only red from Girolamo Russo in 2023 due to the challenges of the year. It is not to be missed.
