The unique microclimate of the area, plus the distinctive Devonian slate soil, has created the ideal combination for producing unforgettable Rieslings that age brilliantly. Viticulture has been practiced at the site of the Karthäuserhof estate since Roman time, but the winery proper took the reigns in 1335, placing it among the ten oldest functioning wineries in the world.
