Lexington - Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Cruz Mountains 2016
A View from the Cellar: 92 Points
"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from Nathan Kandler at Lexington Wines comes in at 14.5 percent octane in this vintage. The cuvée’s cépages this year is seventy-six percent cabernet sauvignon, fourteen percent cabernet franc and ten percent merlot. The wine is aging very gracefully and today offers up a ripe, refined and complex bouquet of cassis, black cherries, cigar smoke, dark soil tones and a nice framing of spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very nicely balanced, with a lovely core of fruit, good soil undertow and grip, still a fair bit of well-integrated tannin and a long, poised and well balanced finish that shows just a whisper of backend heat. This is a lovely bottle that is starting to drink nicely, but still has decades of life ahead of it."-John Gilman
