From Louis Boillot's prized sandy vineyard near Romanèche-Thorins, this wine showcases why Moulin-à-Vent is called the "King of Crus."
Crafted from old vines and aged partially in new oak, this wine transcends typical Gamay expectations. Hand-harvested grapes fermented in a combination of stainless steel and traditional Burgundian barrels create remarkable complexity.
The deep ruby color hints at the sophistication within. Smoky griotte cherries and wild berries lead to an evolving bouquet of mushrooms, charcouterie, and fresh hay. On the palate, it's remarkably "Pinote" – so elegant and silky you might mistake it for one of Boillot's celebrated Volnays. Expect sleek transparency with vibrant flavors of sun-warmed raspberries, dried herbs, Earl Grey tea, and warming spices that build beautifully in the glass.
"The 2019 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is attractive, bursting with aromas of cherries, sweet berry fruit, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and lively, it's deep and layered, framed by powdery tannins and bright acids. This has turned out well."-William Kelley
Blended with 10% whole bunch, the 2019 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes was acutely affected by millerandage and yields were just 8–10hl/ha. This has a well-defined bouquet of blueberry and black plum aromas, the whole bunch neatly interwoven. The palate is well balanced with juicy ripe black fruit, fine acidity and very good structure on the finish. An excellent Moulin-à-Vent.
