Les Couchereaux vineyard is situated on top of the slope, in the middle of the commune. This vineyard has a southern exposure. Soil is made of clay and calcareous. It is well drained and can warm up easily. The grapes bear small little dark red berries. The bunches are destemmed; they macerate in open vats during 4 weeks helping this subtle terroir to reveal itself. After devatting, the wines are aged in oak barrels during 18 months. AGING POTENTIAL 10 years and more, even 15/20 years.
Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.
Mar/Apr 2018, Issue #74, Round Two Of the Excellent 2016 Burgundy Vintage 92 points
(Beaune “Clos des Couchereaux”- Maison Louis Jadot (Les Héritiers Louis Jadot)) The 2016 Clos des Couchereaux is another excellent wine in the making. The nose wafts from the glass in a classic and nicely red fruity constellation of cherries, gamebird, bonfires, complex soil tones, a touch of fresh thyme and a lovely topnote of coffee bean. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully transparent in profile, with a fine core, ripe, suave tannins and impressive length and grip on the perfectly balanced finish. (Drink between 2025-2065)
The Chouacheux is the most gourmand and generous of Jadot’s 2016 Beaune 1er Crus, revealing a lovely bouquet of succulent black fruits, truffle, roast espresso and sweet new oak. On the palate the wine is velvety, supple and full-bodied, with a ripe core of fruit and rich, ripe tannins. Decidedly pleasure bent. (WK)
