Louis Jadot - Corton-Charlemagne 2019 (1.5L)

The Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru appellation is shared by the two villages Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses in the Northern part of the Côte de Beaune. The village of Aloxe-Corton has the rare ability of having over half of its area covered by Grand Cru vineyards. The exposure ranges from east to south and southwest. This vineyard is one of the oldest owned by Louis Jadot since the XIXth century. It is located in the very heart of the appellation (next to the Corton Pougets) which then expanded after 1966. Originally, it was the only place to be allowed to bear the Corton-Charlemagne apellation. This vineyard is ideally South oriented. Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by our cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling. AGING POTENTIAL 20 years and more.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

James Suckling: 97 Points

Complex and sensual nose of citrus and pineapple with a touch of melted butter, the powerful and highly structured palate energized by the driving mineral acidity that pushes the tightly wound finish out a long way. Drink or hold.

Wine Advocate: 95 Points

Aromas of citrus zest, freshly baked bread, beeswax, buttered popcorn and vanilla pod introduce the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), a full-bodied, satiny, layered wine that's rich and muscular, with a concentrated, structured core of fruit girdled by racy acids and chalky dry extract. Long and resonant, it will reward patience. (WK)

Inside Burgundy: 95-97 Points

From Pougets. The Jadot habit is to show this after the Montrachet, but it maanges to stand up all the same. The 2019 is really quite a complex wine. Sunny of course, but not over-ripe, this is definitely a big wine, not much more than 14%, but explosive on the palate. This wine can carry it, but you will really have to wait to enjoy it at its best.

Decanter: 94 Points

From a domaine-owned plot facing due south in Les Pougets, purchased by the Jadot family in the 19th century. Somewhat closed initially, but opening with a bit of time to show a ripe pear fruit character, with hints of beeswax and fresh hay. On the palate, the wine is rich and substantial, with balanced acidity that reflects the southern exposition. With time this should open well, for there is a lot of potential here. (Drink between 2021-2025)

Wine Spectator

A rich, creamy style, featuring peach, apple, lemon and vanilla aromas and flavors underlined by vibrant structure. Tightens up as this evolves through the finish, where oak spice accents linger. (BS)
