The commune of Savigny les Beaune is located above between Aloxe Corton and Pernand Vergelesses, in the north of the Côte de Beaune. Savigny produces exclusively almost red wines (90%) under the village and premier cru appellations. The vineyard shows an east and north-east exposure and is situated between 220 and 360m. The Dominode vineyard is very suitable to Pinot Noir because the soil is deep and benefits for a large variety of fallen rocks from the top of the hill. The grapes bear small little dark red berries. The bunches are destemmed; they macerate in open vats during 4 weeks helping this subtle terroir to reveal itself. After devatting, the wines are aged in oak barrels during 18 months. AGING POTENTIAL 10 years and more, even 15/20 years.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

One of the highlights of the range this year is the 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode (Domaine Louis Jadot), a lovely wine that offers up a deep bouquet of blackberries and cherries mingled with notes of dark chocolate, burning embers and loamy soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and succulent, with an ample chassis of powdery tannin, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish.

Inside Burgundy: 90-93 Points

Slightly deeper in colour than the Clos des Guettes, La Dominode also shows greater concentration of fruit on the nose and palate. There are also more substantial tannins which is the house style with their punch down programme. There is good acidity too so this is one to put away for a longer time.
