Meo Camuzet - Corton Perrieres 2018

"The 2018 Corton Grand Cru Les Perrières is also a beautiful wine in the making, offering up notes of sweet red berries, cherries, rose petals and espresso roast that's still youthfully primary. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive, with terrific concentration, fine tannins and a beautifully defined finish. This, too, will require time, but it's less blocky and muscular than the En Rognet." - William Kelley, A"The 2018 Corton Grand Cru Les Perrières is also a beautiful wine in the making, offering up notes of sweet red berries, cherries, rose petals and espresso roast that's still youthfully primary. Meo Camuzet Description

Méo-Camuzet is one of the most celebrated domaines of the Côte d’Or, located in the heart of prestigious Vosne-Romanée. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land in some of the most spectacular appellations and crus of Burgundy. The vineyard land in Burgundy is highly parceled out among families, which makes it rare for anyone to have enough vines to be able to bottle one grand cru, let alone the six that the Méos have. The early beginnings of the domaine left it in the hands of share-croppers. The last twenty years have brought substantial changes that have fostered a new chapter for the Méo family.

A View from the Cellar: 92-94 Points

This was perhaps the only wine out of cask that was still showing some signs of grumpiness after having its SO2 adjusted a week or so before my visit. Consequently, there was a sense of reserve here that was not evident in the other wines out of barrel and so I have scored the wine in a range, to be fair to its being still a bit unsettled. The bouquet has some lovely nuances in its mélange of red and black cherries, coriander seed, bonfire, stony soil tones and spit-roasted game. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and plenty sturdy at the core, with firm tannins, good soil signature and a long, nascently complex finish. The sulfur adjustments here seem to be most evident on the backend, where the wine does not have the same lift as these other wines, but I am sure it is simply a reflection of the wine having not yet bounced back completely. I would fully expect it to eventually place at the top of the range. (Drink between 2032-2080)

Inside Burgundy: 92-95 Points

A little dark centre here with concentrated fruit on the nose, and a glossiness partly from the oak. A touch of reduction or maybe the 10% stems which have been added back. This is quite severe at the back: this time the stems are to give flesh, by improving the entry on the palate.
