Pecchenino - Barolo Bussia 2013

Wine Spectator: 93 Points

Leads off with scents of graphite, mineral and menthol, giving way to flavors of cherry and black currant. Dense and powerful, with big, dusty tannins guarding the finish for now. Needs time. Best from 2022 through 2045.

Wine & Spirits: 92 Points

This wine opens with appealing scents and flavors of red cherry, tobacco and cedar, though they are tamped down by rigid tannins and warm alcohol. This needs time for the fruit tones to flesh out and match the wine’s powerful structure.

Vinous: 91 Points

The 2013 Barolo Bussia is an attractive wine, even if it lacks a bit of freshness an body relative to most wines of the vintage. Sweet dried cherry, tobacco and cedar emerge, but only with some reluctance, as the tannins are searing in their intensity today. Pipe tobacco, orange peel, mint, crushed flowers and raspberry develop over time, adding shades of nuance. I will be interested to see where the Bussia goes over the coming years. (Drink between 2020-2028)
