2018: The Vintage Report (Côte de Nuits), 11/1/2019, 97-99 points
(Chambertin Grand Cru, Perrot-Minot, Red) Rich royal purple, this is a wine of majestic discretion. The fruit is perfectly, gloriously ripe, with a truly exceptional density of fruit without ever falling over into vulgarity. The acidity is good too. A moment’s silence please for this wine…. Count the length.
The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru has a regal, complex and quite compelling bouquet of layers of black fruit laced with black truffle, woodland and light leafy aromas. There is superb intensity here. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine-grained tannins. Very precise and elegant, with tangible mineralité and great tension on the finish. This is a deftly produced, very impressive Chambertin that will give three, maybe four decades of drinking pleasure.
