"Quite stunning. This magical wine is still dark ruby at 50 years old! Still very dense too managing to combine finesse with a character that is a bit burnt, rich and ever so slightly salty. More throat warming (after the Colheita 1979) and such personality!”
–Jancis Robinson
Located in the heart of Duoro Valley and established in 1715, Quinta do Noval is a Port powerhouse. Following tradition, the vineyards of Quinta are planted with common grapes of Duoro: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Francisca, Sousão.
In 1994, there was a huge haul of replanting in single grape variety plots based off of three factors: the altitude, exposition, and type of planting of the vine. With an outstanding portfolio of fine Ruby and Tawny ports, Quinta do Noval produces an unfortified style of Duoro wine and their newest addition—the Noval Black—a Port made to drink young. Well-known for its Nacional Vintage Ports and being considered by many critics to have produced the greatest Port ever made in 1963.
The beautiful Quinta do Noval is undoubtedly the most famous port producer, largely because their 1931 and 1927 were to vintage port what the 1947 Cheval Blanc and 1945 Mouton-Rothschild were to the Bordeaux trade - divine, monumental wines of extraordinary depth of flavor... The 1975 has turned out to be charming, fruity and actually better than the 1970 or 1963, which is inexplicable. (RP)
This is one of the better '75s. Medium ruby-red, with an attractive plum and tobacco nose, medium-bodied, with simple plum flavors and light tannins. The alcohol is starting to show. (JS, Web Only-2019)
