Vin Picks - March 2024 Selection (Each)

Vin Picks is a monthly wine service that delivers the world’s most relevant producers from
Grapes The Wine Company to your doorstep.

Your Vin Picks for the month of March:

1. 2022 Siret-Courtaud Quincy:

Pssstt… Like Sancerre? You’ll Love This! – In the Loire Valley, the humble appellation of Quincy is delivering zingy Sauvignon Blanc just like its famed neighbor, Sancerre. This Quincy comes from vines averaging 45 years in age, rooted in a mosaic of soil types. The fruit is harvested slightly overripe to boost richness, then vinified in steel to preserve freshness. Simply gorgeous Sauvignon.

2. 2022 Illahe Pinot Noir:

Hip Oregonian – Pronounced Ill-Uh-Hee, this wine is named for the local Chinook word for “earth” or “place” or “soil.” Their goal is to simply make wine as naturally as possible from soil to bottle. They work by hand, with age-old techniques in a gravity-flow, solar-powered winery. The resulting wine is both pure and complex; elements of cherry, tamarind, and cinnamon invite you in; delicious varietal character will keep you coming back to the glass.

3. 2021 Muxagat Branco:

And Now Something Completely Different – Since its inaugural 2002 vintage, Muxagat (pronounced Moo-sha-got) has sought to define table wine in the Douro Valley. Their magnificent, rugged, high-altitude vineyard yields a truly unique field blend of native varietals, led by Rabigato, Arinto and Gouveio. Don’t worry too much about figuring this wine out – sit back and enjoy the rare combo of full flavor and refreshment.

4. 2020 Achaval-Ferrer “Quimera” Mendoza:

Bodacious Blend from Argentina – This wine aims very high: the name derives from the word Chimera, meaning “an impossible search, the search for the unattainable.” That defines the mentality behind this intense blend of Malbec (48%), Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It is ripe and generous, with mocha blackberry and plum notes amid the full-bodied palate. Certainly, drinkable now, but should get more polished with time. Achaval-Ferrer is already acclaimed for its varietal Malbec; this wine is a testament to their progress in blending.
