Your Vin Picks for the month of November 2025:
1) 2020 Selbach Oster Riesling Trocken OMG
This innovative Riesling Trocken OMG from the historic Selbach-Oster estate—with over 400 years of winemaking tradition—represents an exciting bridge between old-world heritage and modern experimentation. The wine undergoes extended skin contact in the style of orange wine, resulting in captivating aromas of fresh flowers, orange peel, and crisp apple that give way to a richly textured palate brimming with stone fruits and honeyed notes. The skin maceration adds remarkable depth and a subtle tannic grip that balances beautifully with the wine's natural acidity. Enjoy this distinctive bottling alongside roasted chicken, funky aged cheeses, or spicy Thai.
2) NV Sylvain Bzikot Cremant de Bourgogne
This elegant 100% Chardonnay sparkler from Puligny-Montrachet is aged on its lees for 12 months in neutral French oak, resulting in vibrant bubbles that showcase bright citrus notes beautifully balanced with refined yeasty characteristics. Crafted using the same méthode traditionnelle as Champagne, this Crémant offers a similar flavor profile and sophistication at a fraction of the price, making it an outstanding alternative for those seeking exceptional quality without the premium. Pair it with oysters, soft cheeses, or light seafood dishes to complement its crisp acidity and delicate complexity.
3) 2021 Smith Chapel Julienas Vayolette
This Gamay hails from a small four-hectare parcel nestled on the steep, west-facing slopes of Juliénas in Beaujolais, where ancient blue granite and schist soils impart distinctive mineral character to the vines. The winemaking philosophy embraces a hands-off approach, employing semi-carbonic maceration followed by nine months of tank aging, with no fining or filtration to preserve the wine's natural expression and purity. On the palate, it reveals captivating floral notes of violet and white rose that dance alongside bright red berry fruit, all supported by refreshing acidity and culminating in a refined, lingering finish. This wine pairs beautifully with charcuterie, roasted chicken, or mushroom-based dishes.
4) 2023 Michele Satta Bolgheri Rosso
A trailblazer who established his estate in 1982 in Castagneto Carducci when Bolgheri viticulture was still in its infancy and the region's legendary reputation had yet to be realized, Michele Satta charted an innovative path by championing Syrah cultivation and single-varietal Sangiovese production in an area then dominated by international varieties. This Bolgheri Rosso blends equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Merlot with 10% Syrah, matured for a year in a combination of concrete tanks and oak barrels to preserve fruit purity while adding subtle complexity. Aromas of vibrant red cherry and succulent dark fruit mingle with refined spice on the nose, while the palate displays balance and freshness supported by structured tannins, making it an ideal match for grilled meats, mushroom pasta, or risotto.
