Bottled with 11% alcohol and 3.5 grams per liter of residual sugar, the 2018 Josephshöfer Riesling Kabinett Feinherb opens with a ripe, elegant, flinty and slatey bouquet. The palate is lush and sweet yet crystalline and piquant, with enormously mineral and structured tension that reduces the palatable sugar easily. Impressive but quite powerful. Tasted from AP 7 19 in June 2019.
The new press house at von Kesselstatt has been in service for three years, and the pressed must runs by gravity into the vessels for clarification. The slightly clearer must is fermented at higher temperatures than in the past in order to finish the fermentation earlier. The 2017 GGs are possibly the best that have been produced here, and the 2018s are also highly promising, especially the dry Wiltinger as well as several Kabinett and Spätlese bottlings. I am curious to taste the 2018 GGs very soon this summer.
